King of Wands Tarot Card Description

A king, dressed in red, yellow, and green, sits on a golden throne decorated with salamanders. His feet are planted firmly on the ground, his posture is firm and resolute, and he is leaning slightly forward. He holds a wand in his right hand, while his left is clenched into a fist by his side. His demeanour is determined and in control. He wears a golden crown with points designed to look like flames. The green cowl-like garment draped over his shoulders is also trimmed with flame-shaped edging. Under his crown he’s wearing a cap of maintenance. Each of the four Tarot Kings wears a cap of maintenance under their crown to symbolize kingship and their right to hold power.

His yellow cloak is emblazoned all over with salamanders. There is a salamander on the ground beside him, and his throne is decorated with lions and salamanders. These all tie into the Fire energy of this card. The lions are symbolic of the Fire sign Leo and symbolize strength. The salamanders are also associated with Fire and symbolize intuition. The dominant colours in the card – red and yellow, are also associated with Fire energy.

He’s more likely to direct and manage people to ensure that everything is completed. This is a leader with great vision. He can imagine something, create his vision, and then bring it to its conclusion. He’s able to plan for the long-term.

The main things to look out for here are a tendency to have a quick temper and to sometimes act too quickly. Try to think things through before taking action. Luckily though, King of Wands maturity means that you usually get the balance right.
